Clinic Services Support Volunteer
Be part of providing access to high-volume, high-quality, low-cost spay/neuter services in one of the most supportive of ways: help the Clinic Services team with the laundry that is generated as we do surgeries and assist with cleaning canine and feline kennels of our active surgery patients. Through these spay/neuter efforts, HSC supports the community in reducing the unwanted pet population and thereby reduces our community's euthanasia rate.
PLEASE REPORT TO CLINIC SERVICES SURGERY TREATMENT AREA FOR THIS POSITION. This position is different from helping with the shelter laundry or kennels!
MUST BE 18 years old
Description of the duties:
- Assist the HSC Clinic Service Team by overseeing laundry; volunteers will help us keep our washing machine and dryer running with loads of surgical and animal care laundry. They'll also help fold and put away the items.
- Ability to operate a washer and dryer and fold laundry (we can teach you how to use our machines if you aren't familiar with such domestic bliss- all levels of "laundry skill" needed and welcome!).
- Volunteers will need to be able to tolerate handling potentially smelly or soiled items (including laundry impacted by urine/pee, feces/poop, blood, or vomit; disposable gloves provided).
- Volunteers will also need the attention to detail to ensure every item is fully dry before folding and storing.
- Cleaning kennels to maintain sanitation and health of the surgical patients (this includes poop scooping, bending to lift beds/bedding, bowls, etc.).
- Assisting Clinic Services team with other cleaning duties of surgery such as sweeping/mopping the floors, lint rolling surgical packs for the next day, etc.
- This volunteer role does include crouching, kneeling, bending to clean within kennels, scrubbing the floors, etc.
- Volunteers will need to be able to tolerate handling potentially smelly or soiled items (including laundry and other items impacted by urine/pee, feces/poop, blood, or vomit; disposable gloves provided).
- Volunteers may be in the room while the surgical team is actively removing pets from kennels to send them to surgery and would need to be aware of their surroundings to ensure they aren't obstructing any pathways or occupied kennels for the pets to leave the room.
VOLUNTEER SUPPORT PROVIDED:
-One-on-one instruction will be provided by a member of the HSC Clinic Services Team.
-Gloves and any other tools necessary for cleaning will be provided.
