Day Camp Animal Ambassadors
Day camps are held on teacher workdays and allow children in grades 3-8 to learn about animals, practice kindness and empathy, make new friends, and of course, HAVE FUN! Additionally, day camps offer teens in 9th and 10th grade the chance to be Counselors in Training, allowing them to help out before they can become a volunteer at the age of 16.
Animal Ambassador Handlers are volunteers who have earned the qualification to bring their own pets onsite to participate in educational programs. To receive this qualification, handlers and their animals must complete an interview, behavior assessment, and background screening, as well as provide proof of current vaccinations.
Animal Ambassador visits typically last about 15 minutes and give volunteers the opportunity to introduce their pet to students, share information about the animal, demonstrate special tricks or skills, and allow students to interact with the animal through supervised petting.
For the safety and comfort of everyone involved, all animals must remain on a leash throughout these visits.
